Bush vs the Hurricane

Salon published this great article by Sydney Blumenthal about how the veneer of the Bush myth of 'protector in chief' has been irrevocably damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

I think he really hit the nail on the head with this article. While Bush's speech sounded sort of good, it also sounded like a litany of empty promises. Does that laundry list of promises really make up for the absolute disregard of the previous two weeks? It is going to take a lot of Americans a long time to get the image out of their heads of a carefree vacationing Bush ignoring dying Americans. If nothing else his litany of promises will certainly ring hollow if the people there continue to go without basic services.
