Antici-pa-a-tion Is Making Me Wait
And you thought you heard the last reference to anything "Heinz" in the political arena!
Can you take it? The pressure is really on in DC. You can feel it in the air. The tension is palpable.
I noticed it this morning when I opened my internet browser at work and read today's headlines. I gasped and said, 'oh my god!' and heads all over the office whipped around and people gathered around my computer saying, 'what? what is it?'
"Meirs Withdrawing Nomination," I said. 'Oh,' people said, dejectedly, 'don't do that to us.' (And I work at a travel agency!)
The whole city is holding its collective breath anxiously awaiting Patrick Fitzgerald's decisions.
Will he indict? Whom will he indict? Rove? Libby? Cheney?
What does this mean for the future of this administration?
A lot of people are staking their political careers on the outcome of the investigation. Democrats are salivating at the possibility of a republican White House embroiled in scandal, especially one that reveals their lack of ethics and care for our national security. Republicans are concerned for what this could mean for the 2006 mid-term elections and their image as the stern patricians who will protect us from terrorism. How can they protect us from terrorism, when they'll sell out the people who are charged with gathering the intelligence necessary to develop a plan to forward a political agenda?
OK, this is an overly simplistic analysis of the Leak Scandal, but true, nonetheless.
I think its important to try and look beyond the mear politics of this event. At its base, this is a criminal case. While the whole world is analyzing every possible political implication of every possible question, Fitzgerald has to concentrate on one: Was a crime committed?
If the answer to that is 'Yes' and he has uncovered the evidence to prove it, he must indict. If not, he can't. Regardless of the political ramifications, he has to follow the rule of law. And if he's a man of integrity and worth his salt, as his background shows he is, he will.
In the meantime...we're waiting!

I fear if too much is made about "Fitzmas" and it ends up with no indictments or just Scooter, some of press as well as some liberals will have some egg on their faces.
I agree with your point about looking beyond this. While alot of people would be upset if there is no indictment, it could happen. Until Fitzgerald announces something I don't like to speculate either.
As to Miers? There was a group who felt this was a token nomination and that she would withdrawl leaving Bush free to not appoint a female or a minority because he tried and those mean people just wouldn't accept her.
I poo poo'd them at first but? I could have been wrong, it's not like that would be the first time.

i am worried about indictments as well, or potential lack thereof. as a democrat, i would love to see fitzgerald stick it to the crooked, lying bastages in power right now, but we have to be realistic about the potential outcome.
i never thought harriett was a serious nomination. her resignation from nomination leaves me apprehensive about who is waiting in the wings.
