W.M.D.--Woman of Mass Dudgeon

Of course I'm talking about Cindy Sheehan, the mother who lost her son, Casey Sheehan, in the Iraq war and has planted herself outside of gwb's Crawford home. She's mad and she wants answers!

And who can blame her. If anyone deserves a serious, honest response, its the parents and families of those who have made the ultimate sacrafice in this war thinking that they doing so to protect their country.

But instead of answers or even respect from our president, she is being treated like the worst kind of disdain and disrespect. According to Dailykos.com:

"Ms. Sheehan is being harassed by federal and local authorities multiple times a day. She has been threatened with arrest, prohibited from protesting, intimidated in various ways, and is facing a media blackout. "

Apparently, she has also been told that if she and her group are still there on Thursday, they will be arrested as a security threat. Security threat? On what grounds? Cindy and the Gold Star Families for Peace and anyone else who shows up has a right guaranteed under the Constitution to peaceably assemble and demand a redress of grievances. See the 1st Amendment to the Constitution:

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

To remove her and her supporters would be a violation of her Constitutionally guaranteed rights. As a supporter of 'strict constructionism,' Bush should know this.

I wholeheartedly support Cindy Sheehan and the Gold Star Families for Peace. I encourage everyone to go to her site and sign her petition. If you can get to Crawford, I'm sure that any amount of support you can offer would be appreciated.

I leave you with this one last final thought...

If the families of the people who are fighting and dying in the war in Iraq are silenced, besmirched, belittled and criminalized, what hope does that leave for the rest of us? How does our continued silence support the troops?
